Fixing Blurry Backgrounds in Flux-Generated Images
Let’s be real—Flux models sometimes give you that weird blurry background effect. It’s not always a dealbreaker since the subject usually looks fine, but if you’re going for crisp, detailed scenes, it can be annoying.
I stumbled on a fix for this while testing the FLUX.1-dev-LoRA-AntiBlur in ComfyUI. It’s a LoRA designed specifically to sharpen up those fuzzy backgrounds without wrecking the rest of the image. Works with SD 1.5, SDXL, and Flux models, so no need to switch pipelines just for this.
Here’s what actually happened when I tried it:
No Trigger Word, Just Adjust the Scale
Unlike some LoRAs, this one doesn’t need a trigger word. You just drop it into your workflow and tweak the scale between 1.0 and 1.5. I found 1.2 to be the sweet spot for most cases—enough to clean up the background but not so strong that it starts messing with the foreground.
For the sampler, I stuck with 24 steps and a guidance scale of 3.5. Not sure why those numbers worked better, but they did. Maybe something about the LoRA’s training data? Either way, the difference was noticeable.
Before and After
Without the LoRA, backgrounds looked like they were smudged with a soft brush—fine for portraits, but bad for anything where details matter. After adding it, the blur tightened up, especially in areas like distant trees or textured surfaces. It’s not magic—you won’t get razor-sharp edges on everything—but it’s way better than default.
If you want to try it, grab the FLUX-dev-lora-AntiBlur.safetensors from the usual places (Hugging Face, CivitAI, etc.). Just load it like any other LoRA node in ComfyUI and adjust the scale. No extra steps or weird configs needed.
One thing I didn’t expect? It works surprisingly well with SDXL too, not just Flux. So if you’re bouncing between models, this might save you some headache.
