Getting Film-Like Textures with Flux Realism LoRA in ComfyUI
I’ve been playing with the Flux Realism LoRA model in ComfyUI, and it’s surprisingly good at adding that gritty, film-camera texture to generated images. The model—called FilmPortrait—is fine-tuned on FLUX.1-dev, and it nails the look of old-school reversal film if you use the right prompts.
How It Works
The key is triggering the effect with specific words: filmfotos, film grain, or reversal film photography in your prompt. Without these, the output looks closer to standard Flux.1 generations. But add them, and suddenly you get those subtle imperfections—grain, light leaks, and muted tones—that make images feel like they were shot on actual film.
Model Details
FilmPortrait was trained by DynamicWang under ShakkerLabs’ non-commercial license (same restrictions as FLUX.1-dev). You can grab the .safetensors file directly from their Hugging Face repo.
Quick Setup
I just dropped the model into ComfyUI/models/loras/, then loaded it with a Load LoRA node alongside Flux.1-dev in my workflow. No extra VAE or CLIP adjustments needed—it hooks right into Flux’s pipeline. For best results, keep the LoRA strength between 0.7 and 1.0. Lower values still add grain but lose some of the color grading quirks.
What I Noticed
- Grain consistency: Unlike post-processing filters, the grain varies realistically across shadows/midtones.
- Prompt sensitivity: The film effect weakens if you overload the prompt with other style terms. Keep it simple.
- Limitations: Sometimes overdoes the vignetting, especially at higher strengths.
If you’re into that analog look, this LoRA’s worth testing. Just don’t expect magic—it’s still Flux.1 under the hood, so anatomy and coherence depend on your base model settings.
